This year’s DREMA 2024 fair in Poznań was a truly special occasion for RollingWood – and not just because it was the 40th anniversary of the event. It also marked 100 years of the Polish State Forests (Lasy Państwowe), and most excitingly for us, the first time our international team met in real life!

From the beginning, the atmosphere at DREMA was vibrant, filled with professionals and innovators passionate about the future of wood processing and forestry. Our team had the opportunity to present RollingWood’s vision: streamlining wood logistics through digital innovation for a more sustainable future. And we did it in our own style.

A Beach Cart, Some Logs, and a Stereo Camera

At our stand, we showcased how computer vision can revolutionize the way wood volume is measured – a task still largely performed manually across the industry. To make our demonstration approachable and a bit playful, we repurposed a cart normally used by Gábor to haul his kids’ beach gear around Lake Balaton. This time, it was loaded with logs from Michał’s summer house nestled in the forests near Poznań.

Mounted on a tripod was an Intel stereo vision camera, programmed to detect and calculate the volume of the logs as the cart rolled underneath. It was a simple yet powerful demonstration of how emerging technologies can automate and optimize what has traditionally been a labor-intensive process.

Great Conversations and Even Better Company

Our stand attracted a steady flow of visitors, sparking insightful conversations about digital transformation in wood transport, traceability, and automation. The interest confirmed what we’ve long believed: there is a strong need – and real enthusiasm – for smarter, more efficient solutions in forestry logistics.

Beyond the business, DREMA 2024 gave us a chance to bond as a team – sharing ideas, stories, and a few laughs. The gala dinner was a particular highlight, offering a relaxed space to celebrate not only the success of the fair, but also the collaboration and spirit that define RollingWood.

Looking Ahead

DREMA 2024 reminded us that tradition and innovation don’t have to be at odds. The forestry sector is evolving, and with the right tools, we can help it move forward sustainably and intelligently.

We’re proud to be part of this change – and even prouder to have finally shared a table, a cart of logs, and a vision with each other, in person.
